 1.3 CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

The College has attested in writing to its commitment and intent to comply with the Criteria, either current or as hereafter modified, consistent with the policies and procedures of the Commission on Colleges. This letter is on file in the office of the Commission on Colleges. That same letter attested to the College's understanding and agreement that the Commission on Colleges may, at its discretion, make known to any agency or member of the public (who may request such information) the nature of any action, positive or negative, regarding status with the Commission.

The College has agreed to disclose to the Commission on Colleges any and all such information as the Commission may require to carry out its evaluating and accrediting function.

The College is a unit of the University System of Georgia and is authorized by the Board of Regents of the University System to award degrees, certificates, and diplomas.

The Board of Regents of the University System, the College's governing body, consists of fifteen members and has the authority to carry out the mission of the institution. None of the voting members has any contractual, employment, familial or personal financial interest in the institution.

The Chief Executive Officer of the College is the President.

Savannah State College, in continuous operation since 1890, offers degree programs based on at least two academic years at the associate level, at least four academic years at the baccalaureate level, or at least one academic year at the post-baccalaureate level.

The College has a clearly defined and published statement of purpose. Its published admission policies are compatible with the stated purpose.

All undergraduate degree programs include a substantial component of liberal arts or general education courses at the post-secondary level. For degree completion in associate and baccalaureate programs, the College requires students to take courses in the Core Curriculum, which consists of four components and includes 20 quarter hours in humanities, 20 quarter hours in mathematics and natural sciences, 20 hours in social sciences, and 30 hours in courses appropriate to the major. These requirements exceed the required minimum of 15 semester hours or the equivalent quarter hours. The credit hours in the Core Curriculum are required in all degree programs.

In each curricular area in which a major is offered, there is at least one fulltime faculty member with responsibility for oversight and coordination of that area.

The College has a plan, as well as a planning and evaluation process, which addresses its educational, physical, and financial growth.

The College owns sufficient learning resources and provides all those services required to support the courses, programs, and degrees offered.

The College has established an adequate financial base and has available an audited financial statement made within the year prior to the visit of the committee which will review the Self-Study. The College does not have a cumulative operating deficit; state regulations do not permit such a deficit.
