About groups served:

Specify explicitly who are the primary intended recipients or beneficiaries of the services or functions of your unit. Who exactly are the services in your unit intended to support and whose goals are they intended to fulfill?  Sometimes those groups are internal to the organization and sometimes external in the larger community.  Taken collectively, the various groups served are all stakeholders of the organization: they have some interest in the organization, its operation, and its “service” or “product.”  (E.g.: all entering students; students seeking graduate schools; students interested in cutting-edge science; students desiring leadership roles in government; staff in the Chancellor’s office, etc.)

What attributes & needs ("predictors") do these beneficiaries have that can be identified in advance to assist in recruiting and attracting the most appropriate clients for your services?  Since it is important for organizational units to focus clearly on the needs of their primary stakeholders in developing their operations, units are asked to specify in the Strategic Planner those groups whom their services are designed to support.

To indicate the groups served, click the pull-down menu on the “groups served” window to find a category of groups. This selection reveals a list of more specific clients in the left-hand window from which specific target clients served may be moved into the right hand column using the right arrow.  Move the name of a particular group from the left-hand sub-menu to the right-hand group served window by highlighting the group name and clicking the right arrow.  The name of a group may be removed from the “group served” window by highlighting and clicking the left arrow.

In the event that your unit intends to serve groups not listed on the “groups served” window, please send an e-mail to SSU IRP indicating a short name for the unique group you intend to serve and it will be added to the appropriate pull-down menu.
