Objective Relates to University Goals: 1, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12
Planning Objective: To support the overall academic program of the University by providing students and faculty with learning and research opportunities which will improve the overall academic climate of the University. This objective will be accomplished by: 1) renovation of the archives facility; 2) collection of archival materials relating to Savannah State University and the higher education of black students; 3) providing instructional programs; and 4) encouraging student faculty collaborative scholarship.
Action Plans
FY 1998:
Audio visual and duplication equipment will be purchased.
At least one visiting exhibit will be on display at the Archives.
Faculty and student research projects will be expanded.
A collection of books will be purchased relating to the history of Savannah State University.
Insurance for the Archives collection will be acquired.
Exhibits will be enhanced to allow for use by the sight and hearing impaired.
FY 1999:
The archives will sponsor a broad-based oral history project to be carried out by Savannah State University faculty and students.
All periodical holdings of the archives will be cataloged on the library electronic file.
The archives building will be renovated to include a fully equipped classroom for 50 students.
Display walls will be constructed in the main exhibit hall of the archives.
FY 2000:
The archives will sponsor two visiting lectures, two higher education history projects, two faculty student research projects, two faculty lecture, exhibits or recitals, and two visiting exhibits.
A complete catalog of archives holdings will be published.
Improvements will be made to the display area and equipment.
