PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The University Plan charts the course for the future direction of Savannah State University, based upon its established mission and goals. The report herein represents a shared vision for planning -- a rich synthesis of ideas, information and action plans from a broad-based and representative group of members of the University family.

Savannah State University has a rich and proud tradition of providing access to higher education. Building upon that tradition of excellence, the University is ready to move into the new millennium, prepared to meet increased expectations for performance and improved service delivery across the board. A number of specific challenges face us in the coming years: semester conversion, changing admissions standards, managing an aging physical plant, and competition in the marketplace. To thrive, Savannah State University must plan for these challenges head-on and continue to demonstrate its commitment to service and academic excellence.

The significance of the University Plan and the process of its creation, projected out for five years, is that it allows all units to understand their respective roles in the organization, identify the ways in which their units contribute to the accomplishment of the University mission and provides benchmarks against which to measure achievements and activities.

Inherent in successful planning, is linking the planning and budgeting functions of the organization. This plan recognizes and demonstrates the establishment of strong links between these two processes at Savannah State University. In an era of limited resources, it is imperative that Savannah State University maximizes all of its resources to achieve efficient and effective operations.

Sincerely,

John T. Wolfe, Jr.

President
