Planning Objectives: Savannah State University will continue the development of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, with increasing visibility among faculty, motivating faculty to increase proposal submissions and by improving faculty incentives for successful grantsmanship during 1998-2000. The Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for implementation, and reports to the President.

Action Plan

FY 1998:

· Quarterly newsletter will continue with emphasis on faculty achievements

· Workshops on proposal development will continue with additional emphasis on program management and budget

· Linkages with other institutions will be strengthened, while additional linkages are sought to facilitate an increase in grant funding

· The addition of an Associate Director trained by the National Institute of Health (NIH)shall be appointed to the ORSP, under a grant from NIH, to facilitate an increase in grant funding in the sciences, specifically from NIH and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

FY 1999:

A data base of faculty research areas of interest will be completed, with all faculty on line being forwarded information via e-mail

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs inter-net Home Page now under construction will be completed for access by faculty and the broader community at large.

The Survey Research Center

The Survey Research Center

Responsible Administrator: Director of Sponsored Research

Planning Objectives: To move the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to total self-sufficiency in the twenty first century, while providing research opportunities for faculty, and staff, the ORSP has created a Survey Research Center (SRC). The Center currently provides a community service, faculty opportunities for research and publishing, and generates revenue of 200-250 thousand dollars per year for the University.

Action Plans

FY 1998:

· The ORSP/SRC will begin marketing the Center to the broader business community nationally, state and federal agencies projecting a 100% increase in revenue by the year 2000. This will be achieve through strategically positioning the SRC as a state of the art facility, professionally managed and Project Directors (faculty) as competent researchers.

FY 1999:

· Develop from six interview stations to twelve stations by the year two thousands a result of business increase.
