Display 1250: Freshman Team Retention Rates by Year"Retention rates" for collegiate athletes are calculated differently for various audiences, each concerned with different interests. The Federal Department of Education (DOE) is interested to know how many members of each team who receive financial aid return to the same institution the following fall. Others are concerned to know how many members of each team, whether or not receiving financial aid, return to the same institution the following fall. In either case, the convention is to track only first-time, full-time freshmen who are on a team roster and to track them from fall to fall terms. Student athletes who do not fit these criteria are not included in the calculation. Listed below are tables reflecting both interests. In either case, and by either calculation, SSU student athletes in general are retained at rates comparable to or better than SSU students in general.
