Savannah State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-1097) to award the associate, baccalaureate, and master's degree.

On-going accreditation by this body requires the institution to undertake a comprehensive self-study periodically culmanating in a site visit by a body of peer academicians.  Accordingly, SSU is now preparing for such a visit in the Spring, 2001.   The university enjoyed similar visits in 1981, 1971, and 1961, respectively.
