Accreditation
Process
Definition
and Recommendations
The
self-study process must be ongoing, comprehensive and tailored to the specific changing
needs of the university for the sake of institutional improvement and accreditation. To this end, the committee recommends:
That
all self-study documents for SSU should be reviewed annually by the SACS Steering
Committee (SACS). Based upon this annual
review, SACS will make recommendations for self-study in the next year. Those recommendations should support the
university mission statement and the changing SSU environment. Those recommendations should also have a long-term
goal of reviewing all major university functions over a ten-year period.
1.
SACS may implement their own recommendations for self-study, or they may advise the vise
presidents (VPs) to form special committees for the study of particular institutional
concerns. The VPs will then execute those recommendations at the university level, and
pass on the responsibility for self-study occurring at the college level to the deans.
2. Copies of the results of each
study will be filed in the office for Institutional Research and Planning and the SACS
office.
3. SACS cannot recommend further
self-study in a given area until the results and recommendations of previous studies have
been responded to: implemented or officially rejected.
4. Recommended Calendar: September: SACS reviews all SSU self-study documents.
October: SACS recommends the form of
self-study for the school year.
